Acabo de tomar conhecimento que Salvador é a única cidade brasileira indicada como lugar para se conhecer em 2019 pelo jornal norte americano "The New York times".Ao todo foram citados 52 lugares pelo mundo e Salvador ocupa a 14 colocação.Inclusive, o jornal cita o centro histórico e a cidade velha, como locais a serem visitados, ou seja, Salvador foi indicada pela sua história e "amálgama" cultural únicos e não por motivos fúteis. Isso me enche de felicidade, pois quando aceitei o convite para vim trabalhar nos EUA em 2014, esse reconhecimento institucional de Salvador fazia parte dos meus objetivos, que em 2016 foi reforçado quando ganhei o título de embaixador cultural do Brasil pela organização Partners of America (Fundada por JFK). A força e a beleza cultural de Salvador sempre me fascinaram e eu sempre que viajei pelo mundo, levei comigo essa missão de falar e divulgar os valores da minha Terra.
Eu sempre soube que o caminho artístico de divulgar a cultura e a história do meu povo não tinha "atalhos" e seria muito mais difícil do que cantar e compor sobre motivos superficiais. Mas a minha paixão por cultura e história, sempre me moveram a compor e escrever sobre a cultura da minha cidade e por isso criei obras como: Odé Caçador, Revolta dos Malês, Voltar pra Bahia ( Com Kezo Nogueira), Yemanjá ( Com Roberto Leite e Tico Marcos), Afrika Dub (Com Mama Soares), Voltar pra Salvador e Malemolência do baiano (Com Lucas Pondé), entre outras, que discorrem sobre a cultura e a mágica desse lugar chamado Salvador. Muitas vezes, essas obras passaram "batidas", ou seja, não foram muito comentadas ou divulgadas na minha própria terra...Mas isso nunca me abalou, pois quem trabalha pela cultura, o faz por amor e não por dinheiro fácil ou reconhecimento barato.Em contra partida, a força e o impacto positivo que minha obra causa fora do Brasil e aqui nos EUA, em especial, sempre me surpreendeu. Vivendo aqui, passei a entender e me realizar pelas minhas escolhas artísticas.
Quando em 2014, aceitei o convite para vim trabalhar aqui nos EUA, apesar do grande desafio e das dificuldades que passei, não tive um só momento de esmorecimento, porque sabia que estava trabalhando pela cultura e reconhecimento da minha terra, que desde sempre ocupou um lugar muito especial no imaginário mundial. Não é a toa, que atraídos pela cultura da Bahia, foram pra Salvador em momentos distintos: Sartre, Neruda, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Marcel Camus, entre outros artistas geniais. O orgulho e a felicidade que eu sinto, quando piso num palco aqui nos EUA, sempre apresentado como um artista baiano e embaixador cultural, é indescritível. E não foram poucos palcos. Nesses 5 anos, só pra citar algumas cidades onde me apresentei por aqui, estão: Nova York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, New Orleans, Orlando, Miami, Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta, entre outras, que estão em partes completamente diferentes do país.
Portanto hoje, quando recebo essa notícia, me sinto realizado e humildemente, entre tantos outros, um dos responsáveis por esse reconhecimento de Salvador aqui nos EUA. Asé !

I have just learned that Salvador is the only Brazilian city indicated as a place to know in 2019 by the North American newspaper "The New York Times". Altogether, 52 places were cited in the world, and Salvador occupies 14 position. The historical center and the old city are cited as places to be visited, that is, Salvador was indicated by its unique cultural history and "amalgam" and not for futile reasons. This fills me with happiness, because when I accepted the invitation to work in the US in 2014, this institutional recognition of Salvador was part of my objectives, which in 2016 was reinforced when I won the title of cultural ambassador of Brazil by Partners of America ( Founded by JFK). Salvador's cultural strength and beauty has always fascinated me, and whenever I traveled the world I took this mission of speaking and divulging the values of my Earth.
I always knew that the artistic path of spreading the culture and history of my people had no "shortcuts" and would be much more difficult than singing and composing on superficial motifs. But my passion for culture and history always moved me to compose and write about the culture of my city and so I created works like: Odé Caçador, Revolta dos Malês, Back to Bahia (Com Kezo Nogueira), Yemanjá (With Roberto Leite and Tico Marcos), Afrika Dub (with Mama Soares) among others, which talk about the culture and magic of this place called Salvador. Often, these works were not widely commented or divulged in my own land. But this never shook me, because those who work for the culture do it for love and not for easy money and cheap recognition. In contrast, the strength and positive impact that my work causes outside of Brazil and here in the US in particular, has always surprised me. Living here, I came to understand and realize myself through my artistic choices.
When in 2014, I accepted the invitation to come to work here in the USA, despite the great challenge and the difficulties I had, I did not have a single moment of demise, because I knew that I was working for the culture and recognition of my land, a very special place in the world. It's not for nothing, that attracted by the culture of Bahia, came here at different times: Sartre, Neruda, Michael Jackson, Paul Simon, Marcel Camus, among other genius artists. The pride and happiness I feel when I step on a stage here in the USA, always presented as a Bahian artist and cultural ambassador, is indescribable. And there were not a few stages. In these 5 years, to mention some cities where I have presented myself here, are: New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Washington DC, New Orleans, Orlando, Miami, Seattle, San Diego, Atlanta, among others, that are in completely different parts of the country. So today, when I receive this news, I feel fulfilled and humble, among many others, one of those responsible for this recognition of Salvador. Asé!
